Abstract

This study aims to analyze and compare the presentation of material on exports and imports in the Social Sciences (IPS) tectbook for grade VI elementary school students, using two different curriculum, namely the Education Unit Level Curriculum (KTSP) and the Independent Curriculum. The approach used in this study is qualitative descriptive, with data collection techniques through content analysis of two social studies books representing each curriculum.

The focus of the analysis is directed at the presentation of export and import concepts, the level of depth of content, the relevance of the material to real life, and the learning approach applied in each book. The results of the study show that books that follow KTSP tend to convey information descriptively and emphasize memorization. On the other hand, books that refer to the Independent Curriculum prioritize conceptual understanding with a contextual approach and encourage student involvement in the critical thinking process.

The Independent Curriculum book is also richer in illustrations, picker questions, and simple project-based activities that aim to strengthen students understanding of the role of exports and import in the economy. This finding suggests the development of teaching materials that are able to balance the delivery of factual information and strengthening thinking skill so the social studies learning becomes more relevant and meaningful for students.
